Well I'm looking at the Stratocaster again at the moment, I wasn't completely happy with the paint job as I had sanded through to primer in a couple of places and the wet sanding also got into a couple of the screw holes and made the wood blister slightly. So I took everything apart and sanded the entire body flat again with 400 grit wet and dry sand paper to give a nice key for a couple more coats of paint.
So far I have put 2 very thin coats over the top of the existing finish, there are a couple of blemishes I need to fill and sand and then continue to apply colour coats before leaving to dry out completely.
